Earth Leakage Testing & Repairs

Earth leakage testing, diagnosis and repairs. Ensure your electrical installation is safe and compliant with regulations.

Service Overview

Earth leakage testing, diagnosis and repair services to ensure your electrical installation is safe and compliant. Nuisance tripping, faulty earth leakage units, and earth fault conditions can indicate serious electrical hazards. We test, diagnose and repair earth leakage systems to keep your property safe.

The earth leakage unit is the device that cuts power when current leaks to earth — the thing that saves a life when someone touches a live wire or when a faulty appliance is sitting in water. When it trips constantly, the temptation is to have it bypassed or replaced with a higher-rated unit so the nuisance stops. We don't do that. It's illegal, it's dangerous, and it's the kind of shortcut that shows up on a COC inspection or, worse, in a coroner's report.

Nuisance tripping almost always has a cause, and finding it is our job. It's often a damp element in a geyser, an old appliance with deteriorated insulation, or water finding its way into an outside socket or junction box. Sometimes it's a genuine wiring fault that needs tracing. The unit itself is rarely the problem — but if it is, we test it properly and replace it with the correct rating, not a bigger one to mask the issue.

Testing an earth leakage unit is part of every COC we issue. We measure the trip time and current, verify the earth electrode and bonding, and check that the unit protects the circuits it's supposed to protect. On our maintenance contracts, earth leakage testing is done annually as standard — it takes minutes and it's one of the cheapest safety checks money can buy.
