A UPS is not the same thing as a generator or a solar system, and it's worth understanding the difference before you buy. A UPS gives you instant, seamless power for seconds or minutes — enough to save your work, close the till, or let a server shut down cleanly. It is not designed to run your office for four hours. We'll tell you which tool actually fits your problem.

Sizing is where most UPS installations go wrong. We measure the actual load of what you need to protect — point-of-sale terminals, the server rack, the alarm system, the CCTV — and work out how many minutes of runtime you genuinely need. Then we match a UPS and battery bank to that, rather than selling you the biggest box on the shelf. Battery chemistry matters too: lithium handles deeper discharges and more cycles, which is usually worth it on a system you plan to keep for years.

UPS batteries wear out. It's a fact of life, and the batteries are usually the first thing to go — typically after three to five years, depending on how often the unit is on battery. We test UPS systems as part of our maintenance contracts, replace batteries before they fail, and advise honestly when a unit is beyond economic repair. A UPS that has been sitting on a shelf for six years with dead batteries is just a heavy box.
